Protestant Cay

Clear water and easy access to Christiansted - hard to beat Protestant Cay for a hotel location.

Palm Trees and Blue Water

Just some nice palm trees against a blue background to kick off your weekend.

Government House Facade

This is a shot of the front of Government House on St Croix.  I put up a different shot of the side of the building a few days ago.

Softball

Last night was the first game for our softball team, Master Batters.  The shot above is one of the sluggers on our team getting ready for a solid hit.  The league is organized by the St Thomas Sport and Social Club (http://www.stthomassportandsocialclub.com/Home.php). Our game was against the Weapons of Mass Consumption, and to just about everyones' surprise, we won!

Pup

Looking out to the ocean.  This dog is Indy (or Indiana if you're being formal), and belongs to some friends of mine.  This photo is actually a guest shot, from an unnamed contributor.

Blue

I just got a new red filter for my underwater housing, so hopefully the blue scuba shots will be a little more colorful in the future.  I like the blue (in the water and the fins / wetsuit) in this shot, I only wish I hadn't cut off the last part of the fins.

Locked

These windows have the typical lock mechanism that you see on buildings all over the VIs - solid metal bar across the opening.  I'm not sure why this style is so popular here, but I suppose it is quite effective with the heavy shutters that adorn most structures.

Cruise Ship

The Norwegian Pearl leaving harbor.  Cruise ship traffic is definitely picking up - the traffic downtown can be disastrous as a result.  (Luckily I don't have to go that way very often.)

Palm Trees

A nice little powerboat nestled between some palm trees on Hans Lollik.  That's the north side of St Thomas in the background.

St Croix

Looking west from Christiansted harbor.  The water in the harbor is incredibly clear, especially when you compare it to Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie.

Happy Valentine's Day

If you have a bit of imagination, this feather duster almost looks like a heart.  Almost.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Overgrown

The plants around this alcove have just about taken over.

Yellow

I love the bright yellow colors on the historic buildings in Christiansted.  This is a shot of a piece of the fort overlooking the harbor.

Christiansted Customs House

The brightly colored, although slightly discolored, customs house in Christiansted on the island of St Croix.

Textures galore with these wooden shutters and emaciated brickwork.

Protection

From on top of the historic fort in Christiansted this past weekend, looking out from the battery on top of the fort.

Sunken Ship

I don't have any details about what happened to the sailboat on the right, but I did see a number of people attempting to either pull stuff off of the boat, or help get her back above water.  Either way, its a sad sight in the Christiansted harbor.

Hotel on the Cay

Spent a very relaxing weekend in St Croix, where we stayed at Hotel on the Cay (pronounced "key").  This little island is right in the middle of Christiansted harbor, but separate enough to be very quiet and a perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

Sailboat at Sunset

I like the reflection of the sun in the hull of this sailboat, moored in Red Hook.

Arabella

The Arabella is a beautiful 3-masted ship that takes cruise passengers around the islands, and apparently it travels up and down the east coast, according to the website.  I haven't been on it, but it looks like a very relaxing ship.

Lounging on the Beach

Nothing like relaxing on the beach in a lawn chair.
